A
little about me.
My name is Roy Evans, formally known as Dj Incognito. I was
born and raised a music lover in Harlem NYC. Amidst an
extensive vocal career from 3rd grade to my first semester
of college, I expanded my love of music to the turntables
in 1986. Although it was fun at the time, me and my boys
tag-team beat juggling instrumentals, something was missing
and after learning the basics, I didn't keep up with it.
Once the bug took a bite again I set myself apart from the
pack by mixing a cappellas and instrumentals and sometimes
using 3 turntables. It was a lot of work, but it made djing
more fun for me.
After reuniting with a childhood friend turned Dj
Akinkunmi, I was reintroduced with house music. By then
house music had started changing. It was sexier... more
melodic. People were playing around with newt sounds and it
was refreshing. It brought back all the memories of just a
few years before when I was 17 going to
The Paradise Garage,
The Love Light,
Lime Light
and
The Sound Factory.
Partying the whole weekend non-stop(without drugs, mind
you). There was still that gritty element... the
infectious repetition of the beat that you can't fully
enjoy with just a set of head phones. It had to be
felt... it yearned to be experienced.
Shortly after 9/11 I moved to Hawaii where I lived for 4yrs
and I now reside in Las Vegas. Besides traveling to do
corporate and private events, I also feature at the local
house venues like:
The Downtown Cocktail
Room,
Satay
and Soul Kitchen @
The Artisan(Las
Vegas’ longest running house venue). Currently I am
playing at
The Downtown Cocktail Room
on Thursdays (LoDown Thursdays), and starting another
website for the local house scene in Vegas called
In The House Las Vegas
which will be launched soon.
Other genres of music are still a big part of my life, but
as a dj, I’m a house head thru and thru. So even now with
the music still evolving, this website is for you house
heads both old and new. You’ll find mixes from my live sets
as well as mixes from other dj's and video clips of dj’s at
the local venues here in Vegas. However you've come to
enjoy the groove, I'm glad you came.
Let there be love in this house!
